Relationships between the students, with each-other and myself:
The importance of respect, teamwork and community within the classroom and our daily lives.
It is my belief that students need to understand respect and aspects of teamwork and giving respect in order to successfully cultivate a community and build mutually-positive relationships.
My students know that I will always work with them to help them build skills in teamwork and showing respect to others and themselves. Regularly, I'm reminding my students that we are all people with feelings and that we should be treating others with respect. We all have hearts, therefore we all have feelings. We all feel hurt when we are excluded and/or mistreated and we all feel joy when our friends do something nice for us.
I teach about inclusion and how different it is from exclusion through group discussions. I work hard to build up students' views of self-worth by showing them how useful they are in this world. I have continuously worked on the student's abilities to cultivate relationships with each-other, leading by example. I keep my heart open to my students and they can see how much I care about each of them, which shows that they can be nice to others too.
This photo is a representation of the students' views about respect, teamwork and community, and the underlying message that comes with Remembrance Day in Canada. The students made their own personal Wordle (a collage of words) to show that they understand what Respect and Kindness entails for themselves as well as the underlying messages involving Remembrance Day and why we remember what has happened in Canada's history.
